Whose Transition, Whose Voice Counts? – Climate Change and Global Value Chains in the Garment and Textile Industries
Book launch webinar
Climate change is reshaping the global garment and textile industries, bringing new pressures and opportunities for everyone involved—from brands and suppliers to workers and local communities. While many companies are setting ambitious targets to cut emissions, less attention is being paid to helping those at the production end adapt to rising temperatures, floods, and other climate risks.
Drawing on insights from Global Value Chains and Climate Change – Reconfiguring the Garment and Textile Industries (Edward Elgar, 2025), this webinar invites an open discussion on how power, responsibility, and decision-making work in global supply chains, and how all actors can contribute to a fair and inclusive climate transition. Panelists will share lessons, experiences, and ideas for aligning climate action with social well-being and business resilience.
You will hear from panelists:
- Kim Hellström, Senior Sustainability Manager for Climate with H&M, one of the world’s largest apparel retailers, with a global brand perspective,
- Miran Ali, Managing director of BITOPI GROUP, a key leader in Bangladesh’s garment sector who emphasizes sustainability as one of the key factors for any business to succeed.
- Syeda Faiza Jamil, Decarbonisation Manager at the innovation platform Fashion for Good, connecting recyclers, suppliers, and brands to accelerate transition across global supply chains,
- Aysha Siddika, PhD Fellow at Roskilde University, who conducts research on textile waste management and the social dimensions of the circular economy in Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
- Peter Lund-Thomsen, Professor at Copenhagen Business School, and author of the book
Global Value Chains and Climate Change – Reconfiguring the Garment and Textile Industries.
