Member network: ESG & Stakeholder Engagement

At our 2nd annual network meeting in 2025, we focus on understanding why stakeholder engagement is such a crucial element of due diligence and deeply integrated in international standards. UNGPs, the OECD Due Diligence Guidance, as well as EUs sustainability legislation all emphasize stakeholder engagement as a core part of responsible business conduct.
Engaging affected stakeholders, such as workers, local communities, and customers drives better sustainability outcomes. It does e.g., by:
- Supporting identification of real impacts – and the uncovering of actual or potential human rights, environmental, or social issues
- Improving the context specific risk assessment resulting in stronger mitigation strategies
- Building trust and social license by demonstrating that the company genuinely cares about how its operations affect people and the environment
- Enhancing accountability and transparency
Failing to engage can mean falling short of the widely accepted international standards and frameworks – and can even result in legal noncompliance.
