Webinar: ESG impact in the palm oil sector – income, climate, and forest protection
Webinar: ESG impact in the palm oil sector: income, climate, and forest protection
Securing resilient supply chains and market access in the palm oil sector
The future of palm oil depends on how well we address three interconnected challenges: farmer incomes, climate resilience, and biodiversity protection. Across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, smallholder farmers are the backbone of production, yet many remain trapped between low incomes and the concrete increasing impacts of climate change on their crops.
From 2026, EUDR will require that all palm oil imported to Europe is deforestation-free. This is an important step for the Danish Alliance for Responsible Palm Oil, with a joint mission to ensure all palm oil imports to Denmark are responsibly produced. However, palm oil production continues to threaten forests, biodiversity, and human rights – and the implementation of EUDR risks coming at the expense of smallholder inclusion.
For companies sourcing palm oil, these challenges are at the same time opportunities. Strategies for purchasing certified palm oil can be combined with investments and initiatives in producer countries. Supporting farmers to earn a living income, adapt to climate risks, and protect biodiversity is not only critical for meeting growing market demands and upcoming regulations — it is essential for securing resilient supply chains and long-term market access.
This webinar wil share cases from Indonesia and Malaysia to explore:
- How to ensure living income and inclusion for smallholders?
- Practical strategies to support risk-management and climate resilience.
- Business approaches that safeguard forests and ecosystems
